Institute Academic Achievement Awards To recognise and celebrate individual student excellence, the Institute annually presents a number of Academic Achievement Awards. Institute Student of the Year Awards Student of the Year Awards will be conferred to students who achieve the highest average result, at least or above a High Distinction grade (86+) in each of the Institute’s ten award qualifications. Regional Student of the Year Awards Regional Student of the Year Awards will be conferred to students who receive the highest average result at least or above a High Distinction (86+) in any one of the Institute’s ten award qualifications in each of the following regions: - Each Australian State and Territory
- New Zealand
- South Pacific
- South East Asia
- East Asia
- South Asia
- Rest of World.
Module Academic Achievement Awards Module Academic Achievement Awards will be awarded to one student in each award qualification module who achieves at least or above a High Distinction (86+). The David Letcher Insurance Law and Regulation Module Award for Brokers In honour of David Letcher's contribution to the broking industry, the module - Insurance Law and Regulation for Brokers - has been renamed 'The David Letcher Insurance Law and Regulation for Brokers Module Award Winner' – Diploma of Financial Services (Insurance Broking). In his long history in the industry, David was a member of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Law, Law Council of Australia, the Australian Insurance Law Association, and the Insurance Council of Australia’s Anti-Fraud Squad. David was also the Referee for Insurance Brokers Disputes Limited, and was well known for his expertise in insurance law and litigation and his views on ethical issues such as fraud, the duty of utmost good faith and proper conduct of negotiation and litigation. P C Wickens Life Insurance Regional Student of the Year Award (NSW) In honour of Peter Charles Wickens OBE, an Academic Award has been established to honour the contribution that he made to the industry. The P C Wickens Life Insurance Regional Student of the Year Award will be given to the student who achieves the highest final grade in the Diplomas of Financial Services - Life Insurance in NSW. P C Wickens (as he was affectionately known) made a huge contribution to the life insurance industry as an actuary and General Manager of City Mutual. He was the winner of the E E Vines Memorial Prize four times in 1960, 1973, 1974 and 1975 and in 1978, was awarded an OBE for “exceptional service to the insurance industry”. He was 96 years old when he passed away. Previous Winners 2009 - Catherine Bini (Metlife Insurance Ltd) AILA Insurance Law and Regulation Awards The Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) will be awarding AUD$1,000 to Australian students (five prizes available) who have successfully completed and achieved the highest final grade of a Distinction or High Distinction in any of the insurance law and regulation modules listed here.

Prizes will be awarded on an annual basis and one prize of A$1,000 will be awarded in each module. ALUCA Life Insurance Award The Australian Life Underwriting and Claims Association (ALUCA) will be awarding an annual prize to any student in Australia who has successfully completed the Institute's Diploma of Financial Services - Life Insurance and achieved the highest final grade of a Distinction or High Distinction. The winner will be awarded a prize of A$2,000. New Zealand Marine Insurance Award Are you a New Zealand based student who was enrolled in the Institute's Marine Claims Management (FSI507) or Marine Underwriting Management (FSI508) modules in 2008? Then you may be eligible to win one of two academic achievement awards proudly sponsored by the Insurance Council of New Zealand's Marine Committee. The student who achieves the highest final grade of a Distinction or High Distinction in each module during 2008, will be eligible to win NZ$500 (awarded in each module). Conditions, Procedures and Responsibilities Prizes are awarded annually based on results of the courses or modules completed in the calendar year. No applications are necessary. The Institute will notify successful students.
